De missie van CaRe, the Netherlands School of Primary Care Research, betreft: een bijdrage leveren aan een betere gezondheid en gezondheidszorg door het bieden van een opleiding van hoge kwaliteit aan jonge onderzoekers en door multidisciplinaire samenwerking tussen excellente onderzoeksinstituten op het gebied van eerstelijns gezondheidszorg, transmurale zorg, public & occupational health en gezondheidsbeleid, gericht op de ontwikkeling en implementatie van nieuwe wetenschappelijke inzichten in die vakgebieden. Deze missie wordt gedeeld door de vier samenwerkende onderzoeksinstituten in CaRe. Dit zijn CAPHRI (Care And Public Health Research Institute) van de Universiteit Maastricht, RIHS (Radboud Institute for Health Sciences) van het UMC St Radboud in Nijmegen, het EMGO+ Institute for Health and Care Research van het VUMC in Amsterdam en het NIVEL (Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research) in Utrecht.

    Strategic issues are discussed in the Board of Directors and in the Board of Governors; PhD supervision and PhD courses are organised by the participating institutes; for overall coordination and quality assurance, PhD coordinators of the institute meet regularly in the PhD Education Committee.
